I have visited to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Mysore(District), Karnataka in my bike with my friend Praveen on 13-Jan-2008. round trip was 300km today. Its really good one day trip.

About: Ranganathittu covers an area of less than 1sq km, but the bird population density is very high. The most common birds in the sanctuary are painted storks, spoon bills, white ibises, egrets, herons and partridges. Most of the birds stay on tiny islands within the cuvery river, which you can approach by boat. You can see more crocodiles in this place.

Entry Fees: Rs 25 per/head, Rs 15 Bike.

Best time to visit: June to November (8:30 am to 6:00 pm), But local people telling, you can see birds between Jan to Jul.

Road Map from Bangalore: I have traveled in Bangalore-Mysore high way(SH-17) in bike. If you travel 135 km in mysore road from bangalore, you will reach Srirangapattna. Still you need to travel near 3 km in the same road after take Right(you will find small circle) & travel 1 and half KM, then take one more right and travel 1 km, You will reach Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary.

Nearby Place to See:

1.At Srirangapattna you can see Ranganathan Temple, Tippusultan Body Found Place.
2.at Srirangapattna, if you take left, you can see Tippusultan Summer house, Gumbaz, Sangamam (Cauvery, Lokapavani & Hemavathi).
3.If you travel 10 km from Srirangapattna in the same high way, you will reach Mysore. You can see place like Phillomina Church, Mysore Palace, Chamundeswari Temple, Nandi Temple, Brindhavan Garden, etc

  3. The photos are appealing. Its a pity that I’ve been to Srirangapatna twice, but never to this Bird Sanctuary.
